The Great Rollercoaster Ride

nba2k11 2011-06-02 05-07-48-86

Four more games in the books, and they were up and down. I spent the first two in pursuit of my last great Holy Grail: the triple double. As good as I’ve been I’ve never had a triple-double. It’s time to try and fix that.

The Anchor

nba2k11 2011-03-19 21-43-55-05

When I mentioned last post that Wade being hurt would allow LeBron to be LeBron, I forgot that that involved him dominating the basketball. His skill in that area was evident in the last two games, but it wasn’t my biggest concern.

Wait, who the hell is this imposter? Who dressed up like me to play in our game against the Bobcats? It couldn’t be me, because I don’t go 0-7 from the floor with 3 points!

Actually, I do when I get frozen out of the offense, completely denying me any chance to get into a rhythm. Every play down court was the same: I was sent to the corner while LeBron went one-on-one with his man. In case you’re wondering, yes that is a recipe for a loss. I added 6 rebounds and 3 assists but turned the ball over twice by being a butterfingers and fumbling the stupid thing. I didn’t ever fumble the ball last year. What’s wrong with me this season? I cost us our last game by not being able to hold onto the ball.

This shot says it all. Chalmers is telling me to get back on the bench while I hide from the facts. For whatever reason, I had a horrible game.Let’s hope that it doesn’t carry over.

Rolling With the Punches

My latest two games were up-and-down affairs. I wasn’t at my best against the Bucks at home, scoring just 10 points with 2 boards, 2 assists and a block in a loss. I wasn’t pleased with myself or my teammates as we were down by one entering the fourth quarter before getting plastered by playing zero defense. I honestly don’t know what happened.

Our next game was against the Bobcats at home and I was greeted by the following situation early in the game.

Oh no. No no no! I’ve upped by durability by 15 since my first injury – not again!!

Ok, I’m sitting up. That’s a plus, right? Now, if only I can stand on my own two legs.

Phew! I’m alright. No harm done. Back to the game!

We ultimately won the game. I finished with 14 points (second on the team behind Wade’s 22), 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. My biggest issue was going 0-6 on three point attempts. Man, what happened to my stroke?

It had better get back soon – there’s only five games before the playoffs!

Rick and the Ankle-Breaker

We played the Bobcats in Charlotte recently, beating them by five. I scored 10 points with four rebounds and two assists with a turnover. It was a rather unexciting game to be honest, but the next one was… interesting.

We were playing the Clippers at home when I had a spill. You know how a good crossover can supposedly break someone’s ankle? My first defensive play saw that hit almost too close to home  Baron Davis shook me off and I hit the ground, only to get taken out of the game with a bum wheel. My ankle wasn’t broken, but ‘twisted’ was bad enough. I lumbered up and down the court for 26 minutes though, only occasionally getting criticized for being too slow up and down the court.

For being as immobile as I was I put together a solid game. I finished with  9 points, 5 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals with 2 turnovers in the aforementioned 26 minutes. LeBron and Wade combined for 45 points (21 and 25, respectively) so we won the game. We were actually tied with under a minute to go when I deterred a Baron Davis shot by rotating over off of Tracy McGrady as the shot clock wound down (Good Shot Defense credit to me). He tried to pass out of the shot but it went out of bounds. I actually spent some of the third quarter out of position, by which I mean I was stuck at small forward. Mind you, I was guarding T-Mac so it wasn’t really a mismatch (I’d been shadowing him at shooting guard since the ankle injury) but the concept was odd.

The injury could be healed by sitting for one day or playing through it for two, so I decided not to bother sitting. Bring on our next foes!
