Bruised, Battered, and Ultimately Beaten

Here’s a quick run through the last few games.Just FYI – this is a huge post. First up was Charlotte, and it was the start of a sad slide.

My biggest problem was with turnovers. I finished the game with 34 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, but I turned the ball over 7 times. Unbelievable! The bad part was, that it was going to get worse.

My wrist was finally bothering me when we got to Houston, so I didn’t play particularly great.

NBA2K11 2011-08-20 01-59-19-23

I finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and only 2 turnovers, and we won again. We’re still blowing the whole, ‘competitive basketball’ concept out of the water right now.

We were playing lousy after two quarters when the Bucks came calling. I personally looked terrible, especially on defense. Brandon Jennings had my number and was lighting me up. Once the third quarter started, I put an end to that.

He tried to cross me over at mid court…

… but I stripped him.

I wasn’t going to make it into the paint, so I cut it back out.

That brought us within two.

Two plays later, we did the dance again.

We have the lead! Now to hold it.

NBA2K11 2011-08-21 01-54-12-87

Again I punched the ball loose.

Brandon “Butterfingers” Jennings tries to recover it.

But wait! That’s a backcourt violation!

NBA2K11 2011-08-21 01-54-42-19

Don’t argue, Brandon. You’ve been bested by the best. We won and I had 38 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals, but – though I didn’t mention it above – I had a mind-blowing 10 turnovers. That’s how we got down in the first place.

NBA2K11 2011-08-23 04-32-21-47

New Jersey was next, and they tried a unique technique to try and stop me. It didn’t work, and I finished with 48 points,

6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks and zero turnovers. I’m back on track!

NBA2K11 2011-08-25 05-57-07-33

With a  new look I sat most of a win over San Antonio with foul trouble. I finished with  35 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and 4 turnovers, but 5 fouls. The next game was to be my breakout, since it would be my first without my hand injury.

NBA2K11 2011-08-31 03-41-46-60

Madison Square Garden was our next stop, but it was a disaster. At the start of the third quarter, the Knicks had an 11 point lead on us, and I was again battling foul trouble. When I got back in to start the third, I was helped make a big run.

NBA2K11 2011-08-31 03-42-05-72

We quickly started to eat away at the lead, and I was playing better. We can win this!

NBA2K11 2011-08-31 03-26-28-90

Ray Allen’s look here says it all. We were back, and we’d taken the lead!

NBA2K11 2011-08-31 03-32-36-42

We started the third tied, but then everything went all to hell. We couldn’t hit a shot to save out lives and the Knicks couldn’t miss. That’s a recipe for one thing: a loss.

NBA2K11 2011-08-31 03-41-03-94

A loss was exactly what we got. I finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers on a shoddy 30% shooting.

In other news, here’s the MVP race standings.

  1. Rick Daniel (ATL)
  2. Josh Smith (ATL)
  3. LeBron James (MIA)
  4. Joe Johnson (ATL)
  5. Al Horford (ATL)

I think I deserve the MVP just for getting three of my teammates on this list. I’m also in the running for Defensive Player of the year, just behind LeBron. We’ll see how that goes.

- Rick Daniel
